BAJADA DEL ÁNGEL
Tras una semana de procesiones de Dolor por la muerte de Jesucristo, hacia el mediodía del Domingo de Resurrección, Peñafiel se pone de gala para presenciar la
singular celebración de «LA BAJADA DEL ÁNGEL» en la legendaria Plaza del Coso. Se trata de la representación del momento en que un ángel-niño desciende de
los cielos para revelar a la Virgen María la Resurrección de su hijo Jesús.
LA BAJADA DEL ÁNGEL o la FIESTA DEL ÁNGEL es la pervivencia de una larga tradición, posible evolución de los Autos Sacramentales que se celebraban en la
Edad Media. Con ellos se trataba de mostrar a los fieles, a través de innumerables alegorías, la exaltación de los dogmas principales de la religión católica.
El origen de LA BAJADA DEL ÁNGEL de Peñafiel, sin embargo, se desconoce. Los datos más antiguos documentados corresponden al año 1799, donde se
expresan que se realizaba “según costumbre antigua”, y aunque la escenificación parece barroca, su origen podría retrotraerse a los siglos XVI o XVII, momento en
que resurgen este tipo de representaciones.

After a week of processions of Sorrow for the Death of Jesus Christ, towards Easter Sunday noon, Peñafiel is decked out to witness the unique celebration of «LA BAJADA DEL ÁNGEL» (The Descent of the Angel) in the legendary Plaza del Coso Square.This is a representation of the moment in which a child angel descends from the heavens to reveal Virgin María the Resurrection of her son Jesus.
«LA BAJADA DEL ÁNGEL» (The Descent of the Angel) o Fiesta del Angel (Feast of the Angel) is the persistence of a long tradition, probably evolved from religious performances in the Middle Ages (Autos Sacramentales).Their aim is to show the faithful to Christ, through countless allegories, the exaltation of the main Dogmas in the Catholic Religion.The Origin of «LA BAJADA DEL ÁNGEL» is, however, unknown.The oldest texts to mention the festivity date back to 1799. These were stated that it was carried out according to «ancient customs».Though the staging seems baroque, its origin could be traced back to XVI – XVII centuries, the time when such representations are re-emerging.
